If I had to create a bumper sticker that modeled my philosophy for life, it would be "A Cook Makes, a Thief Takes." The meaning behind this phrase is a person needs to create their own goals in life and not take the ones of others. There is no harm in receiving the input of other people's opinions in deciding on a goal to have, but in the end, the ultimate decision comes down to you.
Throughout our lives, we are constantly being guided by others. They could be parents, teachers, friends, relatives, and even peers. Constant influence of thoughts and actions are shaping the way we think and what we want to do in life. Sometimes people can get lost in all that advice.
Yet, we all reach a certain point in life where it is time to decide where we want to go in our life. At that point, there is not always someone there to point us in the right direction. That is the time to get creative and intuitive. This is a daily situation that chefs across the world come across. Critics are always looking for that new flavor; that zest that makes that dish that more appealing to the taste buds.
A chef cannot simply take an idea from another chef and add it to their dish. Where's the creativity in that? How can that chef say that the inspiration from that dish came from deep inside when in reality, they simply "borrowed" it from another recipe?
Recipes are just like goals in life. A person can go about a similar area like chicken, beef, or stew but what about the specific ingredients like amount of salt, spice, and water? That is for the chef to decide. That is what makes life interesting and worth living. A thief will always have a deep feeling inside that this is not theirs to call their own. A goal that was never their own to call.
Life calls for your own thinking; your own recipe. Be a good chef and inspire that one awe-inspiring recipe because in the end, it is you who has to live the recipe.

I agree with your philosophy. You can't be a follower of others. Your personal goals could be way different than those of your friends or family. If you do take the goals of others you may be a failure becuase that goal may not be meant for you. Like you said you should set your own goals to become a success in all that you do.
ReplyDeleteI like your article. It is very thought provoking, and well written. During these times of our lives where we are in college and still trying to find out what we want to do for a living, your advice helps us remember what is the most important aspect in it all: To be true to ourselves, and make our own destiny. No one can tell us who we need to be, but ourselves. I am inspired by your article.
ReplyDeleteYour phrase is very true. I am fortunate to have great parents and friends who haven't forced me into any specific field that is not interesting to me. I feel that those people who force themselves into situations are not getting the most out of life. There is no reason that any one has to continue the family legacy of great lawyers or be the next great researcher. College is a time where many people are trying to figure out what THEY would like to do with their lives, and THEY should ultimately make that decision themselves.
ReplyDeleteI love this bumpersticker. If we took other peoples ideas there wouldn't be any creativity in the world. I think to acheive our goals we should come up with our own ideas so we feel even better about ourselves when we reach them. GREAT BUMPERSTICKER
ReplyDeleteI never thought of it that way, very interesting!
ReplyDeleteI agree with this completely. At the end of the day, if you're not doing what you love, or your own dreams, you'll end up unhappy.
ReplyDeleteinteresting bumper sticker its a great concept though. i like this idea to set our own goals and not steal others.
ReplyDeletethis is really unique and i like it because it makes me think and analyze what you're trying to say and i understand it quite well from my perspective. this is overall really true and it's good to be a leader and not a follower.
ReplyDeleteGreat bumpersticker! it was well thought out and well written. Making our own goals is very important and you seemed to justify it pretty well in your blog.
ReplyDeletei agree completely. very nicely said
